sandstone

Sandstone is a coarse-grained sedimentary rock consisting of silica, calcium carbonate or iron oxide. The chemical constitution of sandstone is the same as that of sand & quartz. The color of the sandstone rock is often determined largely by the cementing material, iron oxides causing red or red-brown colour, and the other materials producing white, yellow or gray sandstone. Sandstone has been used in construction since prehistoric times and is a popular building material and is used to make statues, tiles, pavers (interior and exterior applications).
